I’m looking to start a small online accountability group for people learning European Portuguese outside of Portugal; that is, folks like me who don’t have the daily immersion or immediate communicative needs to help keep motivation high. I lived in Portugal for a year and have since returned to the U.S., so I know well how different it feels to be studying the language at a remove.
The idea would be to set up a WhatsApp group chat in which, at the beginning of each week, we post our goals (what/how we plan to practice, how much/often, etc.), and then, at the end of the week, we check back in to share how things went and to offer support and encouragement to each other.
The group could also be a space to share resources, tips, and maybe even get in some writing practice (for example, if people want to share their goals or reflections in Portuguese), depending on what everyone is comfortable with.
If you’re interested, reply here or send me an email.
I am in Portugal, but still I might like to do this with you anyway. I’m interested in your tips for studying, and also I am interested in accountability. I have been studying for quite some time but I feel stalled. In order to advance I want to write weekly, and listen to a short podcast weekly. I will continue to work with my Portuguese friend who is my discussion partner. Let me know if I can join. due to the time difference, Probably I will write you before you wake up, and you’ll respond before I go to bed
