When, or in what context would I use “isto” instead of “este” and “isso” instead of “esse”?
Obrigada,

Hi, Julia. Because isto and isso are invariable pronouns, they are more impersonal and abstract, while este and esse sound more concrete, as if you were saying them while pointing directly at something. Also, este and esse can be followed by the noun you’re determining, while isto and isso can’t.
This Learning Note touches precisely on that: Invariable Demonstrative Pronouns
Also, for general reference for everyone: Determiners - Demonstrative Determiners

Just finished this Unit. Challenging. After several repeats and re-reads, I think I understand these. Thanks so much for the lessons.
