Trouble pronouncing -am conjugation (A1)

Having trouble pronouncing the -am conjugation of -ar verbs (native English speaker). It sounds a bit in the recording like the ending of -am in falam sounds very similar to the -ão in pão. Would it be accurate to pronounce these words similarly? Or is there another sound that’s being made for -am?

It’s my understanding (from one of the first units) that the -am ending should sound exactly like -ão. So I believe you’re hearing right.
