Hi, I was wondering if deixar and permitir are completely interchangeable as a means of saying “to allow”, or “to let”, or are there specific scenarios where you would use one over the other?

Olá, @fjmath. Permitir feels both stronger and more formal, I’d say. So deixar is the verb we end up using the most in everyday life. It’s not a strictly casual verb; it can also be used formally. Apart from that, in the sense of allowing something, I don’t distinguish between them.
