Do Northern Portugal speakers generally only pronunce The Trill or Rolling R in the middle of words? (Etc: Glória, Queira, Ligaram, Abrir, Querido)
I’m american so take what I say with caution. Minha esposa é de Portugal. Uma hora norte de Lisboa.
Good question. The examples you gave are single ‘r’s which are always a tap at the top forward part of the mout. Both Spanish and portuguese I think.
The double ‘r’ and single ‘r’ at the beginning of words is what your question addresses.
I find that more often I hear what I call more like spanish from the northerners. But I think either is understood fine.
Hi @kareemdjerdjouri. @chokers_gossips6h has covered it all
Your question on rolled/trilled Rs would apply to starting Rs and double Rs, and indeed, they’re pronounced like that more frequently in the north than further south, but not exclusively.
