Skipping Grammar? Dreamingspanish and Erasmus+ (ADHD)

Hey
I have ADHD and another condition that makes remembering grammar really difficult for me so I wanted to ask if it’s okay if I skip the grammar part of the A1 course

I’ve already done over 80 hours of DreamingSpanish so vocab and listening are much easier for me but grammar is still a big struggle. I originally wanted to learn Spanish for my Erasmus next year but my placement just changed to Lisbon Portugal so I switched to Portuguese today

Here are my questions:

-Can I skip the grammar? I feel like speaking listening and being able to answer are more important for me than perfect grammar
-How many units should I do per day? Maybe 3 or more
-If I skip the grammar (I do know some basics) can I still complete the A1 course
-Do you think it’s possible to reach B1 level by February 2026 when my Erasmus starts

Thanks a lot for your help

Olá, @irtlpyrul. There isn’t necessarily a right or wrong answer. We encourage Practice Portuguese members to use the platform in the way that works best for them individually, and as such, we don’t prescribe a single fixed approach, even though we might offer some suggestions. Answering your questions in order:

  • You are free to do the units in any order you prefer and skip some of them, so you can dedicate less time to the grammar-heavy units or other units not so relevant for you. I wouldn’t personally recommend dismissing grammar altogether, though.

  • In terms of how much to do in a day, it’s again up to you, but it might be better to commit to a certain amount of time than a certain number of units. For example, one hour per day or X hours per week. Sometimes, one hour might be enough to power through X units, but other times, maybe you’ll need that whole time just to complete a single unit confidently or to go on Smart Review and consolidate all your recent learning. Rushing through units without allowing knowledge to actually sink in can be counterproductive.

  • This is not a formal course, but a platform for self-guided study where units are organized per level just for reference. So, you’re free to explore units at any level and in any order right from the get-go. As you go through different units, you’ll be able to see which ones were completed individually.

  • We cannot estimate this, as each person progresses differently for a number of reasons. We do hope and expect you to be more knowledgeable and fluent than you are today

I just finished the A1 level.

Don’t skip the grammar.

Do all the lessons.

Just give yourself some grace when you get answers wrong. Grammar is hard. Most of the time I don’t even know/remember the english meanings.

They do an excellent job peppering in vocabulary in all the lessons. So ignoring stuff will cause you to miss valuable information.
