Proximo and perto

What is the difference please between proximo (sorry can’t work out how to type the accent on the ‘o’) and perto please?

Olá, @simonanthonythompson! Próximo and perto can generally be used interchangeably in reference to physical proximity to something or someone. In subjective contexts, in reference to emotional proximity/connection, only próximo would be used. To say “next”, we’d also only use próximo, along with a definite article. For example:

  • Somos os próximos a ir (We’re the next ones to go)

Hi regards typing in Portuguese, it’s really easy to set up on your iPhone, if you use that. Research how to add a second language to your keyboard, and then just toggle the keyboard to Portuguese when you’re doing Portuguese homework. You can do the same with the dictate facility on the keyboard. Really useful as you can dictate your responses to excercise ms - and you get a ‘read’ as to how well you are pronouncing stuff.
