Hello, Is there any audible difference between precisamos and precisámos (present and past)? I get that the “sa” syllable is the stressed one, so maybe the a is more open in both cases. Is there a difference when speaking or is it just to distinguish present and past in writing?
@jonatas, the accent indicates that the Á in precisámos must sound more open than the A in precisamos, so it’s a difference both in writing and in speech. Using our vowel pronunciation guide as reference, we’d pronounce precisámos with an open A (as in ‘fala’) and precisamos with a medium A (as in ‘amigo’). In both words, the stressed syllable is indeed the same.
