Portuguese birth certificate

Hi all;

I would like to apply for citizenship.

Can anyone tell me how to get my grandfathers birth certificate, while I visit Portugal?

Born 1897, Ilhavo, Aveiro.

Might it be done in Lisbon or would I have to go to Ilhavo?

Hi Ramboia,

I don’t know the answer to your question for certain, but I found this, that might be useful:

Good luck! :grinning:

I have zero knowledge on this, but the British Consular Services guide that Jeremy shared seems reliable and detailed. Portal do Cidadão is indeed a platform that we use for things like this. Maybe you can also try to ask for more information at your country’s consular services/embassy (if you’re abroad) or at the Portuguese embassy in your country,

Thank you for your responses.
I did go to the consulate in New Bedford, Ma.
Ultimately I had to go to . Arquivo Distrital de Aveiro - , and was actually able to find Avo’s baptism record. I am now waiting for a certified copy…
thanks again
