Parecer-se vs parecer

Good afternoon, is there a difference in the meaning of these two sentences, and how would you explain the difference, please?

  1. A guerra no Sudão parece terrível.

  2. Parece-se terrível a guerra no Sudão.

Many thanks, much appreciated.

Donovan

Olá, @donovan.muller1962  Only sentence #1 is correct.

We only use the form parecer-se when making comparisons (usually physical), and necessarily followed by a preposition, usually com. For example:

  • A menina parece-se com o pai. = The girl looks like her father.
  • Este livro parece-se com o meu. = This book looks like mine.

Thank you very much! I understand. It makes sense.
