I just spent eight days in Portugal hiking part of the Caminho Português with friends. I hadn’t made as much progress with Practice Portuguese before the trip as I’d hoped, but even the little that I had learned made a difference. People really appreciated it when I tried to speak their language instead of just using my fluent Spanish.
Now that I’m home I’m planning to continue with my Portuguese studies even though I don’t anticipate a specific opportunity to use the language. I figure that since Portuguese is such an important language I’ll end up using it sooner rather than later, and in the meantime I enjoy the lessons.
