When using the imperfeito do conjuntivo and using phrases to start sentences like era bom que / era melhor que / I would expect the phrases to translate as it was good / it was better. Instead it looks as though these phrases translate as it would be good / it would be better - Is this correct?
@Tommy-D, that’s correct whenever the imperfeito is being used as a de facto conditional tense, which is something we do very often out of habit/convenience. So, instead of seria bom que…, we might say era bom que…, but with the same meaning. That’s the pattern you’re noticing
