Here’s how to watch Portuguese TV outside Portugal, including live RTP, SIC, and all the other channels. Thank you @anthonylomangino for the excellent idea
If you have a TV set-top box such as an Amazon Firestick, you can add apps to that box. There’s an app called LiveNet TV that allows you to stream Portuguese (and other) TV channels. There are different ways to do it, but here’s how I did it - https://troypoint.com/live-net-tv/
The legality is a bit of a grey area. Here in Europe, my understanding is the law differentiates between streaming and downloading. Streaming is OK, downloading is not. This is a streaming service so is okay - but I am not a lawyer.
Livenet is a bit fiddly to set up, but it works. We now have live Portuguese TV at home. Hurray!
Thought I would add - I’m in the US, and I have a Roku. There is a channel you can add called Portuguese TV. It streams RTP and various other channels. It does cost $0.99/month, but to me that’s a small price to pay!
I have been watching a few Portuguese series, Filha da Lei and Os Nossos Dias via RTP main website as I can select that subtitles be shown in Portuguese. There are a few others. But you have to look for the CC icon in the viewer screen. If anyone has any other faves, do let me know.
Thank you so much! I completed O Sábio earlier this year and have been searching high and low for another show with subtitles on RTP. If you haven’t checked it out, I highly recommend it (+ the bruxas make it perfect for this spooky time of year ): https://www.rtp.pt/play/p3019/o-sabio
If you live in Canada, particularly the GTA, Ontario, there is a multi-lingual channel called OMNI-TV. They have a number of Portuguese programs, including Noticias de Portugues, which is broadcast every weekday at 5:00 pm, EST, with the recent news from Portugal.
