"Emprestar" question

I was just doing the unit on school (B2) and kept being told I was making a mistake when I said: “Emprestes-me a tua borracha?”

It keeps correcting the verb to “emprestas.” Shouldn’t it be “emprestes” because you can’t be sure if the person will or will not loan you their eraser? Am I getting this confused with some other rule?

Yes, it should be emprestas, the simple present conjugation. Asking a question is not an automatic trigger for the subjunctive, especially since it’s not a verb mood that can usually stand alone in a one-clause sentence like this one, unless additional clauses are directly implied. These simple, direct questions are generally worded with indicative tenses

I’m so bad a grammar! I’ll keep trying.
