**Vocês querem jantar fora?Do youpl. want to go out for dinner?
In the lesson about irregular verbs the above sentence was introduced. Wouldn’t the correct translation be „ do you want to have dinner outside?“ while vocês querem sair para jantar” would translate to “ do you want to go out for dinner?” Please clarify!
Olá, @4alexaw! Your proposed translation is not necessarily incorrect, it’s just very literal. “Going out for dinner” is the idiomatic way of expressing in English what the Portuguese sentence is conveying. “Jantar fora” is also more idiomatic in European Portuguese than “sair para jantar”, although the latter is correct as well
Thank you for your reply. So how do you convey that you rather have dinner outside, eg on the patio rather than inside the restaurant? Same sentence structure and you have to base it on context?
