I have come across 2 words for ‘whiny’. What’s the difference, if any. If they mean the same, are there differences in the regional usage? The words are “chorão” e “chorona”. I have my anki flashcards tagged as Practice_Portuguese::A1::17_Adjetivos_1. But I can’t find the words in the lesson, so I don’t know where I found them.

Chorão and chorona are the masculine and feminine versions, respectively, of the same term. The basic, literal definition is ‘someone who cries a lot’, but it can also refer to someone who complains/whines a lot in a suitable context.

Thanks. My wife’s cousin said the same. My response: “oh, that was easy.” I asked him first, but he didn’t answer right away, so when I saw the tag, I asked you guys. I am not sure how I found them, but usually you all do a great job of marking such differences. When I search my smart review, I find both words listed, but the gender is not specified in the superscript afterwards like usual. Can you update the lesson/list for the next person?

That’s a good thought, but I haven’t done that lesson yet. Must not be attached to a unit, but the topic is familiar. I wonder if they were sent as one of the educational emails. I don’t save them, but I do sometimes make flashcards from them.
