Birds - aves vs pássaros

What is the difference between “aves” and “pássaros”? How do you know when to use which?

Olá, @claudine.basson. Aves is the general term for all kinds of birds. Then, for a layperson, pássaros is used as an everyday term for songbirds or basically any small bird. Technically, a bird is not a pássaro just because of size, but because the species belongs to the Passeriform order. Anyway, if in doubt, you can just say ave and you’ll never be wrong
