Assim que consigas - why not future subjunctive?


There is a phrase in the practice that goes “Assim que consigas” - “whenever you can”. Why isn’t it conseguires here? The meaning seems to match future subjunctive and ‘assim que’ usually uses that tense.

Olá, @marg64! It is idiomatic for us to use either tense (present or future subjunctive) after the conjunction assim que, with the same meaning. “Assim que consigas”, “assim que possas”, etc. Even with the present subjunctive, the action/event is expected for a future time, not for right now :slight_smile:
